Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 21, 2026
Cheap Eats Guelph ("we," "us," "our") operates cheapeatsguelph.com (the "site"). This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and your rights under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA).
1. What we collect
We collect two kinds of information:
Information you give us. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. If you email us to report a wrong deal, suggest a restaurant, or ask a question, we collect that message and any contact info you include.
Information collected automatically. When you visit the site, we collect basic analytics (pages viewed, device type, approximate location from IP, referring site) through Google Analytics 4 only after you accept the cookie consent banner.
2. Why we collect it
Newsletter email addresses are used only to send you the weekly Cheap Eats Guelph digest. Support emails are used to respond to you. Analytics data helps us understand which restaurants and deals are most useful, so we can improve the site.
3. Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information. We share data with:
- Mailchimp — to deliver the newsletter. Mailchimp's privacy policy: intuit.com/privacy/statement
- Google Analytics — to measure aggregate site traffic. Google's policy: policies.google.com/privacy
- Google AdSense — to display advertisements on this site. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting google.com/settings/ads or aboutads.info/choices. Google's advertising privacy policy: policies.google.com/technologies/ads
- Netlify — our hosting provider, which processes standard server logs. Netlify's policy: netlify.com/privacy
4. Cookies & tracking
The site uses cookies for analytics and advertising. You can accept or decline these via the cookie banner on your first visit. Declining means Google Analytics and Google AdSense will not be loaded. You can change your preference by clearing this site's storage and reloading the page. Essential cookies required for the site to function (like your consent preference itself) are always set.
Advertising cookies. When ads are displayed, Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies or use web beacons to serve ads relevant to your interests, based on your visits to this and other websites. These cookies do not store personally identifiable information. To opt out of personalised ads, visit google.com/settings/ads. To opt out of third-party vendor cookies, visit networkadvertising.org/choices.
5. Your rights
Under PIPEDA you have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, request corrections, withdraw consent (including unsubscribing from the newsletter at any time via the link in every email), and file a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
To exercise these rights, email hello@cheapeatsguelph.com.
6. Data retention
We keep newsletter subscriber emails until you unsubscribe. Support emails are kept for up to 12 months. Analytics data is retained by Google Analytics 4 for 14 months by default.
7. Children
This site is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
8. Changes
If we make material changes to this policy we'll update the date above and, if you're on the newsletter, we'll let you know by email.
